Lake House Renovation and Expansion
This project reimagines an existing lake house through a careful integration of architecture, landscape, and material. The design focuses on strengthening the relationship between the house and its wooded setting while introducing a calm, contemporary language informed by craft and proportion.
Natural wood siding wraps the exterior, giving the house a warm, tactile presence that shifts with light and season. Deep roof overhangs and layered terraces extend the living spaces outward, creating protected exterior zones that frame views toward the lake and surrounding trees.
Custom wood railings, inspired by traditional Japanese lattice systems, provide privacy while allowing light, air, and views to pass through. These elements introduce rhythm and texture, reinforcing the connection between interior and exterior spaces. Inside, the architecture emphasizes clarity, natural light, and visual continuity, with carefully placed openings that bring the landscape into daily life.
The result is a house that feels grounded, quiet, and deeply connected to its site, balancing contemporary living with a timeless sensitivity to nature and material.
