Hinged Boundaries: A Forest Sanctuary
Conceived as an escape from the intensity of contemporary life, this project explores architecture as a place of pause, reflection, and reconnection with nature. Set within a forest clearing, the building is designed as a quiet presence that responds to its surroundings rather than imposing itself upon them.
A system of hinged exterior panels allows the architecture to transform throughout the day and across seasons. When closed, the house becomes protected and private, blending into the forest. When opened, the panels unfold into canopies and screens that frame views, filter light, and invite air and landscape inside. The building shifts between openness and enclosure, creating a range of atmospheres instead of a single fixed condition.
Interior spaces are organized to encourage slowing down. Areas for bathing, reading, resting, and gathering are oriented toward the forest, emphasizing simplicity, material warmth, light, shadow, and sound. The result is an adaptive retreat that rests when unoccupied and comes alive when inhabited, offering a calm counterpoint to the pace of everyday life.
